Open Call #2 – EXPERIMENT: Call for Pilots

HosmartAI aims to increase the outreach and adoption of the HosmartAI platform, by supporting the deployment of new pilots across the EU, within various types of healthcare entities.

Through Open Call #2 – EXPERIMENT, HosmartAI was calling for pilots made of small consortia of 2–3 partners representing:

  • At least 1 technology provider/integrator: AI and robotics start-ups/SMEs (innovators)
  • And technology adopters: healthcare facilities (end users)
  • Optionally applicants could engage research centre/academia, and/or another SME/start-up taking a role as a competence centre, collaborating in strategically important area(s), between the innovation and healthcare industry.

 

As a result, 4 innovative pilots by European SMEs/start-ups are expected to be implemented, demonstrating the value and benefits of HosmartAI technologies in different healthcare environments across Europe.

What’s in it for selected consortia

The HosmartAI Open Call #2 embodies an innovation cycle between innovators (start-ups & SMEs), the consortium and users (healthcare facilities). This innovation cycle will provide a collaboration framework, to realise successful experiments of new or enhanced products and services, or to implement and validate new business models enabled by HosmartAI.

This is an opportunity for each selected consortium to get:

Support services Access to the HosmartAI ecosystem Visibility and promotion

12-Month Mentorship programme

Get grants up to €145k (equity-free funding)

Access a range of value-added services for the development of the experimental pilot Your assets will feed back into the HosmartAI ecosystem, stimulating the integration of new AI health-tech products/services and engaging new potential users Achieve major visibility, promotion and networking opportunities

HosmartAI was calling for applications to the following topic:

AI and Robotics pilot for smart healthcare centre
AI
Robotics
  • Exploitable AI
  • Deep Learning
  • Reinforcement Learning
  • Convolutional Neural Networks
  • Clustering
  • Natural Language Processing
  • Conversational Robots
  • Robotic and Sensor-based Devices
  • Remote Surgical Navigation Systems

If selected, a project must achieve the following KPIs:

  • 200 patients
  • 50 healthcare professionals

 

Therefore, HosmartAI expects selected consortia to involve in each pilot design a minimum of:

  • 50* patients
  • 12/13* healthcare professional

(*) Lower numbers are allowed, however, applicants must be aware that this criterion can be taken into account in the final selection prioritising the projects meeting the required KPIs.

If  you are a Start-up/SME or a research centre/academia: If you are a Healthcare Facility:
Find here the Healthcare Facilities available to potentially team up and act as your technology adopter. A form was made available during the open call period for you to express the interest to be contacted by Start-ups/SMEs and research centres/academia looking for a technology adopter to form a consortium with.

Timeline

Submission to the HosmartAI Open Call #2 – EXPERIMENT: Call for Pilots was open between the 15th of September 2022, 00:00 CET and the 15th of November 2022, 17:00 CET.

After the evaluation and contracting phases, the selected consortia will enter the EXPERIMENT 12-months programme, divided into 3 phases:

  1.  DESIGN (2 months): The starting point of the projects. The consortia must fine-tune the pilots planning and technology usage with HosmartAI and design a detailed pilot plan, aligned with the HosmartAI objectives.
  2. DEVELOP & DEPLOY & OPERATE (6 months): The core phase. The consortia will perform the technical developments and deploy them at the healthcare unit to achieve what has been previously proposed.
  3. ASSESS (4 months): This will be critical to leverage the results of the 2 previous phases. Consortia must focus on the assessment and exploitation of results/achievements.

Dates for the different phases are outlined below, but may be subject to change if any modifications in the project’s schedule occur.

Are you eligible?

HosmartAI invited consortia of 2-3 partners, representing at least one tech provider/integrator and one end-user (healthcare entity), led by a for-profit start-up/SME.

Consortia could be composed of:

  • Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)/start-ups
  • Healthcare entity/entities (e.g hospital(s))
  • secondary and higher education establishments, research institutes and other not-for profit research entities

In addition, the consortium partners must be legally established in any of the following countries:

  • The Member States (MS) of the European Union (EU), including their outermost regions
  • The Overseas Countries and Territories (OCT) linked to the Member States
  • H2020 associated countries (those which signed an agreement with the Union as identified in Article 7 of the Horizon 2020 Regulation): according to the updated list published by the EC
  • UK applicants are eligible under the conditions set by the EC for H2020 participation at the time of the deadline of the call
