SEGTNAN brings us an Open-Source Java-based Federated Database System on an FHIR Server to Securely Connect Healthcare Centers across Europe.
The Problem:
Necessity of a fast path to rich, data-driven insights for the feasibility of democratising scientific and medical knowledge.
The Solution:
SEGTNAN aims to establish a science-based platform for the smart pooling of medical tests that can be used by any healthcare centre across Europe. The SEGTNAN solution takes care of connecting data points, secures data safety and shares the data results in a sensible, user-friendly manner. As part of the data collection and connection to the federated network, the SEGTNAN solution will also make use of data warehouse intermediate servers and services, in order to aggregate dynamic data from multiple sources. In this way, SEGTNAN will allow users to have access to data that is only temporarily available or where data is only relevant for the federated network and querying after data is aggregated and processed.
With sources coming and going, with some sources being simple static data and others being data warehouses with pre-processed data from other sub-sources not on the network directly, SEGTNAN creates a dialogue between what healthcare scientists know and what they are searching to answer. The resulting system is a dynamic global federated database.
